Post-Editing Machine Translation (MTPE). MT Post-Editing is the revision process for a text that has been previously translated by a Machine Translation system (Post-editing MT). It is executed by professionally trained translators or linguists who review and correct the MT output to remove both semantic and linguistic errors (Post-editing MT).
There are generally two types of post-editing:
Light post-editing involves performing as few modifications as possible to the raw MT output in order to make the translation understandable, factually accurate and grammatically correct (Light post-editing). Mistakes which do not impede meaning are not corrected. One can perceive that the machine translation and the product have been edited by a human.
Correct transfer of meaning from source-text
Untranslated segments from the source-text
Partial or full redrafting of nonsense segments
Deletion of repetitions and redundant or additional output
Terminology check (not thorough)
Correction of typos, spelling and grammatical errors
Minimum amount of modifications.
Full post-editing, a slower and more in-depth process, must produce absolutely accurate translations that consistently use correct terminology, have the appropriate tone and style, have no stylistic inconsistencies and variations and are free from any grammatical mistakes. After this edit, the translation should read as if a professional linguist translated it (Full post-editing). One cannot perceive that the translation is a machine translation product.
